So thats the reasons I've commonly seen for using unifi. For a lot of old houses, without ethernet runs, its expensive to get ethernet runs around the house. For APs or anything. In that instance, it makes a lot of sense to go with a mesh network. And I think it bears mentioning, that ubiquiti APs are mesh compatible.I had the same dilemma. I went with Reolink for my outdoor cameras because I couldn’t stomach the cost of Unifi’s. If a Reolink camera breaks I really don’t care because it’s like $60-80 to replace it. I havent had any break so far and they’ve been used 24/7 for about 12 months in Chicago weather.

Apparently, Ubiquiti is pushing their Teleport feature, which apparently can be used with WiFiMan on Android to connect remotely. Also FWIW, I saw something about having to login via UID to enable the Teleport/VPN and "generate the URL". (I've never used the feature, so I do not know how it actually works.)

Why do people need this? If you don't want a local network controller, Unifi will host one for you. You simply create a new site, connect your APs, switches, etc to your existing network and use the cloud based controller to manage. TPLink Omada has a similar option available.

The cameras, for decent megapixel, 1080 and variable focus are around $125 and newer versions have a mic built in. Newer versions also have digital throw and zoom where as older versions were set screws and a pain to tighten a great image. Quality wise, I can't complain about either, I like both.
